A survey of global shopping habits conducted by KPMG has revealed that UK shoppers are embracing technology at a faster pace than many other countries.
The survey, which was conducted amongst 9,600 consumers aged 16-65 across 31 countries, revealed that 77% of British shoppers prefer to buy entertainment products – such as DVDs, CDs and Books – online. This is compared to a significantly lower 65% globally. With so many UK-based websites to choose from, and prices and promotions becoming increasingly favourable to the consumer, it’s highly understandable that shoppers are reigning in their spending by taking advantage of the offers and discounted prices that online retail offers.
Another interesting trend is that 6 in 10 customers in the UK buy their grocery shopping online, whereas only 2 in 10 customers in the US stated the same. This highlights just how advanced retail technology is in the UK, and that it is already heavily depended upon. With a wide range of delivery methods available – and additional in-store technology, such as scanning devices that the customer can use whilst filling their basket, and GPS apps that can guide them through the store – technology is fast becoming a pivotal part of the UK shopping experience, and the statistics are a fair reflection of this trend.
